TheatreWorks will host its annual Writers' Retreat Jan. 17 to Jan. 23, giving teams of composers and playwrights the chance to develop new work.
TheatreWorks will supply performers to try arrangements, a musical director to help guide the process, as well as musicians. Mini-performances from each work will be performed on Jan. 23. This year's retreat participants include Michael Nash (book), Kent Gash (book and director), Taj Mahal (music), Bob Weir (music) and David Murray (music) teaming up on a musical called "Pitchin' Man," based on the life of Hall of Famer Satchel Paige. This is the group's first collaboration and first time at TheatreWorks."
