Time lopes on
A video from the show last night may be viewed at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9N2v14On2Q
Thank you Benny from dot org!
From Munck Music:
Dear RatDog fan,
We'd like to inform you of some important changes to RatDog Live.
Starting with the current 2008 spring tour, Munck Music will now be offering downloads only of RatDog's future live recordings. We will also continue to offer CDs (and downloads) of all previous shows from the 2003-2007 tour archives. The new web address for all downloads (and archive CDs), is: RatDogDownloads.com
.....................................................................................................................
You know what is fun to do while waiting for shows?
Well, for me, it's making up my own tour shirt to wear at the show.
Instead of ironing on the photos/text to the shirt, I simply go to zazzle.com (they acquired Goodstorm) and
put my design on a shirt , pay a reasonable fee and then they create it and send it to me.
My last shirt (which I'll wear at the Beacon) got here in 2 days!
I'm embellishing it at the moment but here are parts of it- pre Bedazzling)

Happy Belated Birthday 2 Hippie Bill!
Nice Fresh Show review!
http://msp.blogs.com/themorningafter/2008/03/32008-bob-weir.html
mmm, cake!
Everything is about right in the weirld!
Ratdog tour has begun and you can get all the facts and setlists on the homepage of Ratdog.org---> link should be over there!
Pix of the show, including our one and only Mark Karan are up in the 'Community' threads .
I bet the energy was thru the roof as many of my friends trekked out to Minnesota to be there to welcome MK back after his beating Cancer. "Pretty much a miracle" indeed.
No photo proof but, dot orgers spotted Al Franken on the rail, reportedly rocking out.
Now that's a Purim to be remembered!!!
And a detailed review of the show can be found at- http://www.ratdog.org/2008-03-21/reviews
Should Marin have a Hall of Rock? It would make sense- check out this article-http://www.marinij.com/lifestyles/ci_8646253

Peyote to LSD: A Psychedelic Odyssey
On April 20th, the History Channel is airing a much anticipated documentary called 'Peyote to LSD: A Psychedelic Odyssey'. I will be setting my DVR soon and will report on the show once I've seen it. Make sure to tune in!
Quoted from IMDB.com:
Plant Explorer Richard Evans Schultes was a real life Indiana Jones whose discoveries of hallucinogenic plants laid the foundation for the psychedelic sixties. Now in this two hour History Channel TV Special, his former student Wade Davis, follows in his footsteps to experience the discoveries that Schultes brought to the western world. Shot around the planet, from Canada to the Amazon, we experience rarely seen native hallucinogenic ceremonies and find out the true events leading up to the Psychedelic Sixties. Featuring author/adventurer Wade Davis ("Serpent and the Rainbow"), Dr. Andrew Weil, the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir and many others, this program tells the story of the discovery of peyote, magic mushrooms and beyond: one man's little known quest to classify the Plants of the Gods. Richard Evans Schultes revolutionized science and spawned another revolution he never imagined. Written by Peter von Puttkamer

Joseph Campbell and the Grateful Dead
Music documentary "Chasin' Gus' Ghost" will screen on March 29 as a part of the On Location: Memphis International Film Festival.
The film, directed by Todd Kwait, is a labor-of-love documentary focused on one of America's most beloved forms of folk music, the jug band. Featuring a who's who of '60s folk artists like Rock and Roll Hall of Famers John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful) and Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), David Grisman, Geoff Muldaur, Maria Muldaur and Jim Kweskin, "Chasin' Gus' Ghost" explores the history of jug band music and the influence it had on these legendary musicians.
Jug band music has deep roots in Memphis. Two of the most famous early jug bands were from the city: Cannon's Jug Stompers, featuring Gus Cannon, and the Memphis Jug Band, featuring Memphis native and blues godfather Will Shade. Both bands recorded and played in Memphis during the 1920s and 30s. Gus Cannon's Jug Stompers were a popular Beale Street act into the 1930s. Three decades later, following the folk revival of jug band music in the early 1960s, Will Shade and Gus Cannon recorded an album for Memphis' Stax label.
Here's what the critics are saying:
"Delightful... it is the first word that came to mind when considering Chasin' Gus' Ghost... the end product happens to be the most enjoyable film anyone will see this year."
DocumentaryFilms.net - Bryan Newbury
"An absorbing movie capable of inspiring a whole new generation of ghost-chasers."
AllAboutJazz.com - Sam Chell
What: "Chasin' Gus' Ghost" screening at Memphis International Film Festival
Where: Malco Theatre - Studio on the Square
When: Saturday, March 29th 12:30PM
Tickets: $8.50 at door, available online at http://www.malco.com

Here's an excerpt from a review on the show.

"Come the '60s, and Penn the classicist begins to experiment a bit. A young Edward Albee is all cigarette and eyelashes. Penn manages to make Rudolf Nureyev, in 1965, look like John Updike. But that's all right, since he also makes Updike, in 1970, look like Anne Tyler. A joint portrait of Big Brother and the Holding Company and the Grateful Dead, from 1967, conveys the slightly unnerving information that Bob Weir was prettier than Janis Joplin. In a 1964 portrait, Ingmar Bergman has his fingers over his eyelids, a rare Penn indulgence in gimmickiness. Conversely, Arthur Miller holds a finger over an eyelid, in 1983, and that does work (it's the way Penn lights the open eye)."

Some fine Jerry & Bobbyness at http://coneycat.livejournal.com/543195.html!
Hey! Kemmie and I made it out to The Boom Boom Room on Saturday night to see/hear Band of Brotherz!
I LOVE BB Room! Quite a crowd, Dave Shul from Spearhead sat in for the entire show, which ended all too soon.
One fun night!! Dear Jay Lane, Would you-Could you arrange one (at least!) more B.O.B. show before Ratdog runs off to tour?

A Benefit for Martin Fierro
Longtime Jerry Garcia collaborator Martin Fierro has been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer and, like many musicians, does not have medical insurance. Luckily, a number of musicians have rallied behind the veteran saxophonist and will play a benefit concert at Sebastopol, CA’s Odd Fellows Hall on February 29. The gig is being billed as “three sets of Kanvus with special guests” and all proceeds will help Fierro with his medical bills. The event’s organizers will also host a silent auction throughout the night and, to that end, are looking for donations from bands and musician (particularly signed CDs, posters, shirts, photographs and tickets to shows).
for more info email Matt Layton at matt@12galaxies.com or call 510-478-5008
