Time to get your David Gans on!

David Gans -

Time for another update!

My new studio CD, The Ones That Look the Weirdest Taste the Best, is being played on radio stations all over the country. Our promotional campaign is just getting started - you can help with this effort by calling your local station and asking for it!

The web page, designed by my friend and sometime musical partner Eric Rawlins, is up and humming at dgans.com/weirdest - cover art, lyrics, reviews, ordering information, all that good stuff.

Before I get to the performance listings, there are a couple of other items I'd like to let you know about.

Tonight on Dead to the World: a wonderful band from Philly, Boris Garcia, will perform live for the full two hours, 8-10pm Pacific. Mark Karan of Ratdog will be joining the band for part of the show, and we may have another surprise guest as well. KPFA is heard at 94.1 FM in northern California, and tonight's program is also available on the web via kpfa.org, kfcf.org, and nugs.net

Rubber Souldiers - the "Beatles jam band" with Chris Rowan, Lorin Rowan, and me - will sing one song at the Rex Foundation benefit in San Francisco this Saturday. Big brother Peter Rowan is the headliner, and Chris and Lorin have graciously invited me to share their guest spot to show off our fun new band. The event takes place in the Grand Ballroom of the Regency Center in San Francisco. Lots more info at rexfoundation.org - see you there!

We've got a rudimentary web site up for the band - rubbersouldiers.com - and we're making plans to play lots of gigs in the new year.

And now, the GIG SPAM! More information, links to the venues, etc. always up to date at dgans.com/gigs.html

I still don't understand how to make my blogger behave if I did, I'd have Tahoe Jimbo's 420 blog among my links.
Fans of Albert Hoffman and Mt Girl will want to check out his latest blog-
http://tahoejimbo420s.blogspot.com/

Well, this was interesting.
A podcast
"How to contain my grateful head"

http://www.timothyjordanshow.com/shows/how-to-contain-my-grateful-head/

Warning- Super annoying DJ radio banter thru the first 11 minutes.

Good stuff going on in the Bay Area this coming Wednesday!

In Fairfax at The Iron Springs Pub & Brewery:
Rubber Souldiers

You might remember the last time they played at the Pub and all 3 Rowan Brothers showed up to play.  This particular line up {Chris & Lorin Rowan, David Gans & now Robin Sylvester from Ratdog} is sure to dazzle & delight...

In San Francisco at Yoshi's:
The Big Mix

Original Beat icon Michael McClure, who penned Janis Joplin’s immortal “Mercedes Benz,” and Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who created one of rock’s most memorable instrumental lines (think “Light My Fire”), join forces with saxophonist George Brooks (Summit, Bombay Jazz, Etta James), bassist Rob Wasserman (Lou Reed, Aaron Neville, Rickey Lee Jones), and drummer Jay Lane (Charlie Hunter, Bob Weir) for a evening of sophisticated anti-politics, elegant improvisation, American haiku, and jazz-drenched dharma boogie. (This past summer BIG MIX took the stage in Golden Gate Park for the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love, thrilling the crowd of 80,000 with their performance of "The God I Worship Is a Lion," which was first performed at the Human Be-In in 1967.)

From David Gans:

Tomorrow is the annual KPFA Grateful Dead fund-raising marathon.
Please pass this info along to your communities everywhere!

Saturday, February 9, 2008, 9 am to 1 am pacific time.

It'll be webcast via http://www.dead.net/kpfa and http://nugs.net and
http://www.gdradio.net and of course http://www.kpfa.org - tune in if
you can, and please spread the word!

Pledge phone numbers: 510-848-5732 and 1--800-439-5732. You can also
pledge online at http://www.kpfa.org/support

The playlist and program notes will be updated in real time at
http://cloudsurfing.gdhour.com

We'll be using the DeadNet chat room.

DeadNet is providing some great premiums: Road Trips vol 1 no 2 (Fall
1977); a DeadNet Store gift card; the Vault Box; and they're also
donating 10% of all Dick's Picks sales for the day to KPFA, so it's a
good time to fill in some gaps in your collection. We'll have some
other CDs, books, DVDs, and concert tickets, too.

As for the music, I have some uncirculated live GD from 1972, 1977,
and 1980; highlights of last monday's Deadheads for Obama show (and
the press conference Phil, Bob, and Mickey did before the show); and
more surprises to be determined as I finish my pre-production work
today.

From David Gans

Greetings from dank, drippy Oakland CA!

It's been a quiet couple of months musically, but I have been busy! The Sirius Satellite Radio gig is great fun ( If you'd like to check it out, can get a free three-day online trial at http://www.sirius.com/gratefuldead - and that's good for all channels, of course!), and I have also been working on several musical projects that (if all goes well) will yield happy results in the year to come.

My Bay Area dance card is filling up all of a sudden, and touring plans for the year are just starting to take shape. I'll post more festival gigs soon, and if all goes well there will be some interesting collaborations as well. And who knows? Maybe even a club tour - it's been a while!

As always, the gig info is kept current at http://www.dgans.com/gigs.html

I also post about my performances, along with news of my various creative endeavors and other stuff you might find worthwhile, on my blog Cloud Surfing (formerly known as the logblog).
